A very successful Easter weekend for our youth teams

Sporting’s youth teams took part in numerous tournaments over the Easter weekend and delivered strong collective and individual performances. An overview of their best results.

For the thirteenth time in fourteen editions, our U17s participated in the prestigious Future Cup (organised by Ajax Amsterdam) during the Easter weekend. The Mauve and White lifted the trophy after winning all five of their matches against strong opponents such as Olympique Lyonnais, Bayer Leverkusen and, twice, Real Madrid. Top scorer of the tournament, striker Rami Lougmani, was also named best player of the tournament. Find out more about this great success here.

FUTURE CUP

Our U13s remained unbeaten and finished third at the ISR Elite U13 Cup in Heerde, the Netherlands. In the group stage, they defeated PEC Zwolle (3-1), KaPa-RCDE (5-0), Odense (2-1) and drew with FC Utrecht (1-1). In the quarter-finals, they edged past HJK Helsinki (1-0). The semi-final ended 0-0 against Sparta Prague, with the Czechs prevailing on penalties. RSCA then won the third-place match against FC Twente - Heracles (2-0).

Meanwhile, the U10s lifted the trophy at the HVV Sterrentoernooi in The Hague, the Netherlands, after six impressive wins in seven matches. Following convincing victories against PSV (4-1) and Feyenoord (5-2), they lost to KRC Genk (0-3), but bounced back strongly with two 5-0 wins against Manchester United and hosts HVV. In the semi-finals, they secured another emphatic 6-0 win over KAA Gent before taking convincing revenge against KRC Genk in the final (4-1).

The U9s also enjoyed success at the Salvatore Brussels Football European Cup in Schaerbeek, delivering a true masterclass. In their group, they beat Tubize Braine (21-0), FC Borac Banja Luka (8-2), RFC Seraing (15-3) and Paris Acasa Futsal (11-3). After eliminating Lommel SK (8-1) in the round of 32, Aventus Amsterdam (4-1) in the round of 16, Chelsea FC (9-0) in the quarter-finals and Antwerp FC (9-1) in the semi-finals, the Mauves defeated Arsenal FC in the final (8-3).

The day before, two U8 teams also took part in the Salvatore Brussels Football European Cup. After finishing second in their group, our second team was eliminated in the round of 32 by Olympique Marseille and eventually finished in 16th place after the placement matches. Our first team drew with OM in the group stage, which they topped, before eliminating Lierse (12-1), Juventus (5-1), AC Milan (4-2) and Feyenoord (8-0), before losing in the final to Luton Street (7-4).
