40 years after the birth of Anderlecht Champion, Mosaert and Stromae celebrate the cultural heritage of the mauves with a spectacular tribute show.
40 Years Anderlecht Champion
In 1985, RSCA claimed its 18th league title. To honour the champions from the capital, Brussels folk hero Grand Jojo wrote a song that would go on to become global football heritage: Anderlecht Champion.
Le Grand Jojo recorded the song together with the entire squad of the time, including star players such as Franky Vercauteren, Enzo Scifo and coach Paul Van Himst. None of them could have foreseen the popularity the infectious “Allez Allez Allez” would reach.
Not only was the song immediately embraced by the fans of the Mauves, it would soon travel the world after being reworked for the Belgian Red Devils during the 1986 World Cup. “Olé Olé Olé” quickly achieved cult status and was adopted in stadiums, nightclubs and on television stations across the globe.
Forty years on, Anderlecht Champion is still played before every home game of RSC Anderlecht. It is a fixed ritual, a first Pavlovian goosebumps moment of collective club love in the stadium.
Mosaert celebrates Sporting’s cultural heritage
In the anniversary year of Anderlecht Champion, Mosaert, the creative label behind the Brussels artist Stromae, celebrates the cultural heritage of the Mauves. They designed this season’s complete shirt collection, directed the team photo in a stylised “A”, and Stromae reworked the legendary Anderlecht Champion into his very first remix.
That remix is now available in a limited edition on vinyl in the fan shop and webshop. On the B-side you can hear the original from 1985, while the A-side features this season’s remix.
Tribute Night at the Park
The climax of the collaboration with Mosaert will be a Tribute Night in the presence of Grand Jojo’s family on Sunday 25 January, ahead of the match against Dender. With a spectacular stadium show set to the sounds of Anderlecht Champion, Mosaert places the crown on a festive year dedicated to the most beautiful club in the country.
Tickets for the match (18h30), including the tribute show (18h10) with a choreography directed by the Mosaert team, are available via ticketing.rsca.be. The best VIP-seats are available through rsca.be/VIPtickets
