On Thursday evening, the Mauves travel to the Bosuil for the cup match against Antwerp FC. The first leg at the Park ended in a 0–1 defeat. A difficult, but not impossible, task awaits Jérémy Taravel’s men. “There is enough quality in this group; we just need to rediscover that little bit of luck and confidence,” said Taravel. “I stand here with a feeling of pride,” Jérémy Taravel began in his press conference, “but I try to put myself aside. The most important thing right now is the club and the players. That comes before everything else. I’m simply trying to help the team and prepare them as well as possible for tomorrow’s semi-final against Antwerp.”
Taravel did not consider leaving the club for a single second. “I had the opportunity to leave, but RSCA showed faith in me last season by bringing me here. Moreover, this does not feel like the right moment to leave the squad. As a person, I have flourished here, I feel good, and I am at the service of the club.”
Following the departure of Edward Still and Lucas Biglia, Arnaud Djoum and Naïm Aarab strengthened the first-team staff. “They are two people I know very well, a kind of trusted figures. We don’t have time to get to know each other, so I needed people around me who tell me what they really think. In addition, they both played at a high level, which makes the relationship with the players easier.”
Le coach n’a pas encore voulu dévoiler son plan pour demain. “Il n’y aura pas de grandes surprises, mais j’apporterai cependant quelques touches personnelles. Encore une fois, il est important de rester simple et de se focaliser sur les bases. Les joueurs ont besoin de calme et de sérénité. En tant que staff, nous essayons de leur faciliter la tâche en apportant une bonne ambiance et de la positivité à l’entraînement.”
Le coach est conscient que la situation n’est pas évidente. “Ce n’est évidemment pas une situation facile pour les joueurs, mais - avec tout le staff - nous essayons de protéger le groupe du bruit extérieur. Nous sommes uniquement concentrés sur le match et sur ce qui doit se passer sur le terrain.” Et ce qui doit se passer au Bosuil est clair : gagner. “Il y a suffisamment de qualité dans ce groupe, nous devons simplement retrouver ce petit brin de réussite et de confiance qui nous permettait de gagner nos matchs en novembre.”
