It was a busy summer for the Mauves. There was plenty of movement at Neerpede, both in terms of incoming and outgoing transfers. Sporting Director Antoine Sibierski and his team brought eleven players and a new head coach to RSC Anderlecht. At the same time, fifteen players moved on from the club. In an in-depth interview on Mauve TV, Sibierski looks back on the recent transfer window, his first mercato at RSCA.
Antoine Sibierski was presented as RSC Anderlecht’s new Sporting Director last May. The 51-year-old Frenchman has since then headed the sports department and the day-to-day management of all professional teams (First Team, Futures & Women), while also overseeing the Scouting and Performance departments. Sibierski opens the Mercato Interview with a brief look back at his first few months at the club.
"I have known this club since I was young. Now that I am part of it and work here every day, you really feel the size of the club, its history and its prestige. You truly understand what this club represents and everything it stands for. I am proud to work for a club like this, and proud of the role and responsibility I have here. When I arrived at the club, I immediately had a very good impression."
After a period of observation following his arrival at Neerpede, Sibierski faced a particularly busy first transfer window. The Mauves brought in eleven new players this summer and started the season with a new head coach and a renewed technical staff. Reinforcements were added across all areas of the team, with a mix of young talents and experienced players. There was also plenty of movement on the outgoing side, with fifteen players leaving RSCA to pursue an adventure at another club, either permanently or on loan.
"A transfer window is always very intense. This one was perhaps even more intense because I felt that many changes had to be made. It wasn’t about changing things for the sake of changing, or signing players for the sake of signing players; it was about building a squad. That requires a thoughtful, composed approach, with accuracy and consistency. The players who come in have to complement each other, but also complement the players who are already at the club. A transfer window is always a collective effort, together with the scouting department and Kenneth Bornauw."
