Last Monday, during the Pro League Awards, the Pro League inducted three new members into its Hall of Fame. Two of them proudly defended our colours. Franky Vercauteren and Enzo Scifo undoubtedly left their mark on the history of the Mauves and the Red Devils, with whom they took part in the remarkable World Cup campaign in Mexico forty years ago.
Franky Vercauteren’s list of honours is truly impressive. The iconic winger won four league titles (1981, 1985, 1986 and 1987, plus two more as coach in 2001 and 2004), one Belgian Cup (1976), two European Cup Winners’ Cups (1976 and 1978), one UEFA Cup (1983) and two European Super Cups (1976 and 1978). The Little Prince of the Park is an icon of RSCA, both in Belgium and on the European stage.
During his two spells at Sporting, Enzo Scifo - who recently celebrated his 60th birthday - won four league titles (1985, 1986, 1987 and 2000). In January 1985, his performances were rewarded with the Golden Boot award. The elegant playmaker is regarded as one of the greatest talents ever to wear the purple and white shirt as well as that of the Red Devils.
Thank you for everything, and congratulations, Franky and Enzo.
