The Senegalese player calls time on his career.
Having joined RSC Anderlecht in 2008 from FC Brussels, Cheikhou Kouyaté gradually worked his way up to become an important player for the club. After a loan spell at KV Kortrijk during the 2008-2009 season, the Senegalese midfielder returned to the Mauves and established himself thanks to his physical strength, commitment and versatility.
From 2009 to 2014, the ever-cheerful Cheikhou Kouyaté played an active role in RSCA’s successes, winning four Belgian league titles (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014) and two Belgian Super Cups. Equally effective in midfield and at centre-back, he also regularly impressed on the European stage.
His outstanding performances earned him the move of his dreams. After making 206 appearances for RSCA (the club he has played the most matches for), he moved to the Premier League in 2014 to join West Ham United. He continued his career at Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, while becoming a key figure for the Senegal national team, which was crowned African champion in 2022.
Thank you for everything, and congratulations on a magnificent career, Papis.
