Sarah Wijnants transferred to Fiorentina

At just 25 years old, a true icon is leaving Sporting
SARAH WIJNANTS

One of the pillars of the RSCA Women is heading to Italy’s Serie A. With one year remaining on her contract, Sarah Wijnants has completed a transfer to Fiorentina. The Italian club finished the 2024–25 season in fourth place, behind Juventus, Inter, and AS Roma.

Sarah joined RSC Anderlecht in 2017 - at just 18 years old - after winning two titles with Standard Fémina. Over the years, she grew into a key player for the RSCA Women first team. She played a crucial role in securing seven consecutive national titles and one cup victory (in which she scored the opening goal in the final).

Now 25, Sarah - who already has 40 caps with the Red Flames (having progressed through all youth levels) and was recently competing at the Euro with Belgium - takes the step up to a higher-level competition. There’s no doubt that this RSCA legend will shine in Italy, showcasing her speed, vision, and goal-scoring instinct: her 95 goals and 121 assists in 224 matches over eight seasons speak for themselves.

Sarah’s message to the club and fans:

“For 8 years, RSCA was my second home. Ever since I was little, it was my dream to play for Anderlecht. My room was filled with posters of Boussoufa, Biglia, and Lukaku. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and of the fact that maybe now, little girls don’t have to look up to the men, but to us. Girls who also dream of playing for the most beautiful club in Belgium. It was a dream - that first time in Lotto Park…”

“I arrived here in 2017 and was welcomed with open arms. Throughout this journey, I met incredible people, built friendships, and found a second family for life. Thank you for the most beautiful memories and successes. You are the most wonderful family I could ever wish for - I wouldn’t have wanted to experience this with anyone else.”

“It was a tough decision, but now it’s time for me to chase other dreams. Know that this is not a goodbye, but a ‘see you later’. My home will always be my home. We’ve written history together and we’ll continue to do so. In the meantime, keep supporting RSCA Women - because trust me, we are the most beautiful family. And if you ever doubt it, from today, I’m your biggest fan.”

Buona fortuna in Italia, Sarah
