This Sunday evening, RSCA hosted their neighbors Union Saint-Gilloise at Lotto Park for the final match of Matchday 27 in the Jupiler Pro League. David Hubert opted for the same starting eleven that earned a point against Fenerbahçe on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, the Purple and White suffered a 0-2 defeat after a very tight match.
Both teams started well, but chances were scarce in the first half-hour. Neither side managed to gain the upper hand. After thirty minutes, Thorgan Hazard struck a powerful free kick, slightly deflected by the tip of Luis Vázquez’s boot. The shot forced Union goalkeeper Anthony Moris into his first major save of the game. The visitors responded immediately and opened the scoring through Anan Khalaili, who slotted in from close range. Only two real chances in the first half, halftime score: 0-1.
Immediately after the break, a goal by Franjo Ivanovic was rightly disallowed for offside. The game’s dynamic remained unchanged: the match stayed tightly contested. However, Sporting created two good opportunities after an hour of play. Anthony Moris denied both a shot from Théo Leoni and a free kick from Thorgan Hazard. On the subsequent counterattack, Colin Coosemans made a fine save on a shot from Promise David, but he was powerless against the rebound from Franjo Ivanovic: 0-2. In stoppage time, the Union goalkeeper made another crucial save, keeping out a strong header from Luis Vázquez. On the following corner, Jan Vertonghen’s header struck the crossbar, and Nilson Angulo tapped in the rebound, but he was flagged offside. As a result, the three points headed to the Duden Park.
