RSCA 2-3 KV Mechelen

RSCA hosted KV Mechelen on Sunday night at Lotto Park for the final game of the regular season. Brian Riemer had to make several changes. Besides Yari Verschaeren, Amir Murillo was also injured after Thursday night's European game. Benito Raman was not in the squad and Amadou Diawara was suspended. That meant that Marco Kana, Hannes Delcroix, Mario Stroeykens and Killian Sardella came in the starting line-up. Moussa N'Diaye and Lior Refaelov started the game on the bench.

It was Islam Slimani that nearly opened the score, with a shot that hit the top of the crossbar. Mario Stroeykens did manage to open the score with a beautiful curl from the edge of the penalty area. Attempts by Mario Stroeykens, Anders Dreyer and Islam Slimani followed. After dominating the first half, the Mauves suddenly  had to concede two goals in the closing minutes. Rob Schoofs took a pass from Sandy Walsh on the volley and scored with an unstoppable shot. Shortly after, he even doubled the lead after a Geoffry Hairemans’ cross. A third Mechelen goal was disallowed for an earlier foul. 1-2 at the break.

After the break, Jan Vertonghen had a good attempt, but it was Islam Slimani who was able to head  in after an excellent cross from Francis Amuzu. The Algerian finishes this season as Anderlecht's top scorer with eight goals. Our players looked for chances, but didn’t manage to find the net. Twenty minutes before the final whistle, the KVM goalkeeper had to save a good header by Islam Slimani. The striker did it again moments later, but Gaëtan Coucke was again on hand. Bart Verbruggen stopped a good shot by Rob Schoofs, but the latter then delivered an excellent cross for David Bates' header: 2-3 was the verdict. Sporting's season comes to a grinding halt.
