From 15 to 17 August, the Euro Bierbeek took place - the prestigious international tournament for U13 teams. The Mauves survived the group stage unbeaten and advanced all the way to the final of this renowned competition. There, German club Eintracht Frankfurt proved too strong.
RSCA’s U13s were drawn in Group C alongside OH Leuven, RWDM, AZ Alkmaar (NED) and FC Copenhagen (DEN). The opening match was immediately a derby: the Mauves defeated local rivals from RWDM with a clear 0-4 score - a great start for our young Ketjes.
Next came a 1-1 draw against OHL. RSCA then beat AZ Alkmaar (2-1) and FC Copenhagen (3-1), finishing the group stage as winners of their pool.
On day two, two knockout matches awaited. RSCA first recorded a 2-0 win against Tottenham (ENG). Against Academia Hagi - the youth academy founded by the Romanian football legend of the same name - the game ended 0-0.
On the final day, RSCA began with wins over Cercle Brugge and Legia Warszawa (POL), 1-0 and 0-3 respectively. In the semi-final against Antwerp FC, penalties were decisive: after a 0-0 draw in regular time, RSCA triumphed 5-4 in the shootout.
In the Euro Bierbeek final, RSCA faced Eintracht Frankfurt. Unfortunately, the Germans were the stronger side, winning 0-3. Nevertheless, our Ketjes left the prestigious tournament with their heads held high after an excellent weekend. They lost only one match, and RSCA-player David Ngoura Zanga was awarded the trophy for Best Player of the Tournament.
Congratulations, Neerpedeboys.
