Superb Genk goals result in Purple & White third place

RSCA did not manage to end the turbulent season 2017-2018 positively. KRC Genk won 1-2 in the Astridpark.

Two long-term injured players returned for RSCA: Kara was in the starting line-up, Frank Boeckx on the bench. The game started with a lot of atmosphere. Mauves Army provided Purple & White smoke screens while goalies Filip De Wilde, Daniel Zitka and Silvio Proto kicked of the match. After fifteen minutes, Trossard seemed to be opening the score with a nice attempt, but the VAR showed offside with respect to the assist by Samatta. Ten minutes before half-time, RSCA took two goals: Dries Wouters nicely beat Sels, two minutes later on Leandro Trossard doubled the Genk lead.

In the second half, the Purple & White tried to score in reply. Saelemaekers gave a wonderful assist to Lukasz Teodorczyk, who put his fifteenth competition goal past goalie Vukovic. After that, the Genk defence stood strong, although Trebel was dangerous with a free kick. At the very end, Teodorczyk was close to scoring the equalizer on a centre by Saelemaekers, but Vukovic made the save. For RSCA, the season 2017-2018 does not end on a high note. Thanks to third place, however, they have directly qualified for the Europa League group stage.
