The competition takes a short break this week due to international football. For some of our Sportingboys, that doesn’t mean rest - it’s a new opportunity to defend their nation’s colors. Discover below which players have been called up and what their match schedules look like.
Ilay Camara has been called up by Senegal for the final two qualifying games ahead of next year’s World Cup. On Friday, October 10 (3 PM), Ilay and his teammates travel to South Sudan, before hosting Mauritania on Tuesday, October 14 (9 PM).
For Mexico - winners of last summer’s Gold Cup - César Huerta is back in the squad. The Mexicans will play two friendly games at home: against Colombia (Sunday night, 3 AM CET) and against Ecuador, featuring our own Nilson Angulo. The two Sportingboys will face each other on Wednesday night, October 14 at 4:30 AM (Belgian time).
Nilson, who recently extended his contract with the Mauves, will also play against the United States on Saturday, October 11 (2:30 AM). Staying on the American continent, Nathan Saliba has been called up for Canada. Nathan will play friendly matches against Australia (11/10) and Colombia (15/10).
The Mauves are also represented in the youth teams. Tristan Degreef will feature for Belgium U21 in two UEFA Euro 2027 qualifiers. On Friday, October 10 (7 PM), Belgium face Wales away, before hosting Denmark on Tuesday, October 14 (8 PM) at Westerlo’s stadium.
Yasin Özcan has been called up by Turkey’s U21 team, who also play two European qualifiers - at home against Lithuania and away to Hungary. Mihajlo Cvetković, who scored in last weekend’s Clasico, will play two friendly matches against Russia.
Meanwhile, Ali Maamar and Anas Tajaouart are still competing at the U20 World Cup in Chile with Morocco. They impressed in the group stage with wins over Brazil and Spain, and will now face South Korea in the round of 16. That match kicks off Friday at 1 AM (Belgian time).
