As an elegant midfielder, Mario conquered the hearts of the purple & white fanbase in recent seasons. At the age of 21, the midfielder made in Neerpede will soon round the mark of 150 games for the first team.
Mario signed his first professional contract with RSC Anderlecht at the age of 15. He made his debut in the first team in January 2021, at the age of 16. Thereby joining ranks of the youngest debutants in purple and white, just behind Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans.
Since then, Mario has steadily established himself as a stronghold in midfield. With one year left, Mario decided to extend his contract at his formation club.
Sports Director Olivier Renard:
"Over the past few months, we have had very constructive discussions with Mario. All parties were quick to realise the importance of extending his deal in a good understanding. Mario is and will remain a very important player for the team, for the club and for the Academy. He can help the team grow even further, and we can do the same for his development as a player."
Mario Stroeykens:
"In recent weeks, I have come to the full realisation that my story here is not yet complete. I still have more to give to this club, to show to the supporters. I think it's my job to be an example on and off the pitch, like all those players before me who came from the Academy. So I am very happy that we were aligned quickly and I can fully focus on our performances on the pitch."
