Meet Michaela: Getting to know our new number 21

MM

Michaela Martišková is RSCA Women’s seventh summer signing. In her first interview as a Mauve and White player, the Slovak forward reflects on her remarkable journey, the eye for goal that earned her Slovakia’s Young Player of the Year award, and the influence Ludmila Matavkova had on her decision to join RSCA.

Welcome, Michaela. Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

"My name is Michaela Martišková. I’m 20 years old and I’m from Slovakia. I’m an attacking player and I’m really happy to be joining RSC Anderlecht today."

Tell us about your football journey.

"My football story started at a very young age, when I was six years old. I began playing football in the garden with my older brothers and for the local team in the village where I grew up. After playing for clubs in slightly bigger towns, I joined Spartak Trnava. I had a very good season there, which earned me a move to Slovan Bratislava, the most successful club in Slovakia. Things also went well there, giving me the opportunity to move to Italy. I signed for Juventus, who loaned me to Hellas Verona last season. Now I’m here at RSCA."

Why did you choose RSC Anderlecht?

"The club’s ambitions and objectives perfectly match my own. I’m really happy to join RSCA because it’s the biggest club in Belgian women’s football. I also immediately felt how professional everything is here, which makes it the perfect environment for a young player to develop."

What do you already know about RSCA?

"I spoke to Ludmila Matavkova, my teammate in the Slovak national team, who played here before. (Matavkova played for RSCA Women from 2023 to 2025 and won one league title with the club, ed.) She told me RSCA is a very professional and ambitious club that does excellent work, especially with young players. Hearing that convinced me, and I’m really looking forward to getting started here."

What kind of player are you?

"I think I’m a very hard-working player. I’m not afraid to do the dirty work, I enjoy pressing high and helping the team that way. And as a forward, of course I also love scoring goals."

What are your biggest strengths? What do you hope to bring to the team?

"I think I’m a strong striker who can hold up the ball well with my back to goal, allowing the rest of the team to join the attack. I also hope to contribute with my physical strength in duels and my instinct for scoring inside the box. My first objective is to integrate well into the squad and share my enjoyment of the game with my teammates. I want to improve every day and eventually win trophies with RSCA."

What is Michaela like away from football?

"Unlike on the pitch, I’m actually quite calm off it. I enjoy watching TV series, listening to music and just relaxing. I also sleep a lot, so whenever I have free time, I often take a nap."

You’re only 20, but you’ve already played for Slovakia’s biggest clubs, scored goals for fun, won the Young Player of the Year award and been named in the Team of the Season. Does it sometimes feel like everything is happening very quickly?

"Yes, sometimes it does. I felt that especially when I joined Juventus. It’s not common for a player from the Slovak league to move straight to Italy, especially not to a club like Juventus. The Slovak league isn’t one of Europe’s biggest competitions, so I’m really happy I got that opportunity."

You’ve also already represented your country. What did that feel like?

"It felt like a childhood dream had come true. I honestly don’t have any other words for it."

Who is your biggest football role model?

"My role model has always been Cristiano Ronaldo. He taught me that you always have to work hard to achieve your dreams."

Which shirt number will you wear at RSCA, and why?

"I’ll wear number 21. I really like number seven, but it was already taken, so I chose three times seven. (laughs)"

What are your ambitions at RSCA?

"My ambition is to give everything in every match and win as many games as possible. I hope to win trophies with this great club. RSCA has high ambitions, and I want to help the club achieve them."
