Competition football takes a short break this coming week to make way for international fixtures. After the 1-0 victory against Club Brugge past weekend, several players of the Mauves joined their national teams in high spirits. Find out below which Sportingboys were called up and when they will defend their national colors.
Sporting players are traveling all over the world. Nilson Angulo and Nathan Saliba are heading to the American continent, where they will meet on Friday, 14 November. Nilson will also play with Ecuador against New Zealand, while Saliba will face Venezuela with Canada.
On the African continent, two more Mauves will be in action. Ilay Camara will feature for Senegal in a top clash against Brazil (15/11). Mario Stroeykens has been called up for the first time to Congo’s national team and will face Cameroon on Thursday, 13 November.
Closer to home, Mihajlo Cvetkovic was called up to Serbia’s U19 squad. He has three matches on the schedule: against Gibraltar, Georgia, and Croatia. Yasin Özcan will play with Turkey’s U21s against Ukraine and Lithuania.
Nathan De Cat has joined Belgium’s U17 team for the World Cup in Qatar. The Belgians have qualified for the Round of 16 after collecting 6 out of 9 points in the group stage. They will now face European champions Portugal. If the young Red Devils succeed, a potential rematch with Argentina could follow, a team they were narrowly beaten by in the group stage.
For the Futures, two players are joining their national teams. Nunzio Engwanda will play three U19 European Championship qualifying matches with Belgium against North Macedonia, Estonia, and Portugal. Devon Decorte (USA U20) has two friendlies against Costa Rica scheduled.
