Draw against Club Brugge

Sporting played the topper against Club Brugge in the Lotto Park on Sunday afternoon. Coach Brian Riemer chose to give Kasper Schmeichel confidence in goal, and Thorgan Hazard also started for the first time. Moussa N'Diaye, injured, was replaced in the selection by Kristian Arnstad. Ludwig Augustinsson started at left back. The at times intense match ended in a 1-1 draw.

RSCA started the match well with heavy pressure, but without creating any real chances. After the first fifteen minutes, our opponents got into the game better, but the defensive organizations kept each other in balance. Attempts by Onyedika, Vetlesen and De Cuyper could not worry Schmeichel. And on the other end, Sporting only needed one clear chance to open the scoring. Killian Sardella headed Francis Amuzu's cross back into the pack, and an injured Kasper Dolberg was cunningly lurking to make it 1-0. The goal was also his last act, since  he left the field for Luis Vázquez after his goal. To make matters worse, Thomas Delaney also had to return to the dressing room after landing badly on his shoulder. Amadou Diawara replaced the unfortunate Dane just before the break.

After the break, Club Brugge increased the pressure, but Sporting held up well. Tough duels followed, but the game remained fair. The first chance for RSCA came for Thorgan Hazard, but his kick went over. Sporting played well, but still suffered a 1-1 draw. Zinckernagel cut through midfield and laid off for Andres Skov Olsen who equalized. Fifteen minutes before the end, Francis Amuzu and Thorgan Hazard made way for Anders Dreyer and Alexis Flips, but it was Club Bruggee which continued to push, without really threatening. A logical score, a lot of intensity on both sides, but in the end the two goalkeepers did not have to do much.
