Thorgan Hazard is a Mauve. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder joins us from Borussia Dortmund, signing a 3-season contract.
47 caps for the Belgian national team. Spells at clubs the likes of Chelsea FC, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach and PSV. Golden Boot of the year 2013. And now officially the last summer signing of Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht.
Thorgan Hazard started his career at Stade Brainois and AFC Tubize before signing his first professional contract at French side Lens at the age of 14. In the summer of 2012, he joined Chelsea FC. The London club loaned him to Zulte Waregem for two seasons, where the second eldest of the Hazard brothers displayed his fine form. In two seasons, Thorgan scored 21 goals and delivered 27 assists. His brilliant performances earned him the 2013 Golden Boot for the best player in the Belgian league.
The Belgian then embarked on a nine-year adventure in Germany. At Borussia Mönchengladbach, Thorgan scored 44 goals and 44 assists. In 2019, he made a top transfer to Borussia Dortmund, where he won the German Cup and the German Super Cup. On loan at PSV last season, Thorgan scored the crucial equalizer that gave the Eindhoven side the cup victory.
As a Red Devil, Thorgan has 47 caps to his name. He played at the 2018 World Cup, the 2020 Euros- in which he guided the Red Devils to the quarter-finals with a stunning goal against Portugal - and the 2022 World Cup, among others.
CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg:
“We have big ambitions for the future. Bringing Thorgan Hazard here is another proof of that. Thorgan is Belgian, experienced, and he fits the profile that we were looking for: he’s technically skilled, offensive and yet also has that physical and aggressive aspect to his game. Above all he is still extremely hungry to achieve success with us. We’re looking forward to building the future together with this squad.”
"I am very happy to sign for Anderlecht. I also felt like returning to Belgium with my family. I had been following the developments at the club closely all summer and I was impressed by the mercato, the quality of the squad and the project of the club. I really wanted to be part of it, and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and rediscovering the Belgian league."
