It is with great sadness that RSC Anderlecht has learnt of the death of Erwin Vandendaele, who passed away on 21 July at the age of 81. The Mauves extend their deepest condolences to his family, his loved ones and all those who knew and held him dear.
Having joined Sporting in 1974 after ten seasons and a title with Club Brugge, Erwin Vandendaele wore the purple and white shirt for three seasons. An elegant and experienced defender, he made 129 appearances for the club and played a part in one of the finest periods in the club’s history.
With Sporting, he won two Belgian Cups (1975 & 1976), a League Cup in 1974, but above all the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1976 and the European Super Cup in the same year. A 32-time Red Devil, he also won the Golden Boot in 1971.
