This Thursday, Sporting hosted Silkeborg IF for the first day of the group stage of the UEFA Conference League. Jan Vertonghen was in the starting eleven for the first time.
At first, shots by Soren Tengstedt and Mark Brink missed the target. Until just before halftime there were barely any chances. Just before the break, a shot from Fábio Silva went wide. 0-0, score at the break.
At the restart, Yari Verschaeren took the place of Anouar Ait El Hadj. On the hour mark, a goal by Yari Verschaeren was disallowed for offside and a shot by Fábio Silva missed the target. Julien Duranville replaced Lior Refaelov.
Amir Murillo and Fábio Silva had good chances, but the Portuguese striker had to wait until the 80th minute to score from a penalty kick caused by Julien Duranville. The Anderlecht team controlled the game and kept the lead until the end. Three good points to start the UECL.
