On Sunday afternoon, the Mauves travel to Jan Breydel for their clash with Club Brugge. After three unbeaten matches in the Jupiler Pro League, Sporting need three points to secure a place in the Champions’ Play-offs. Can RSCA get those points on the pitch of blauw-zwart? “We know that the trip to Club is always difficult,” Taravel said in his press conference, “but we want to maintain our positive momentum.” Watch his full press conference ahead of Club Brugge - RSCA on Mauve TV.
As usual, Jérémy Taravel opened his press conference with an update from the injury list. At Jan Breydel, Taravel will not be able to count on a few key players in the spine of the team. “Marco Kana and Yari Verschaeren will not be available yet on Sunday,” he said before the big match. “For them the game comes a bit too early, but I hope they will be available next week.”
There was also bad news on the flanks for RSCA. César Huerta had already undergone surgery in November in the United States for an operation on his pelvis. However, as the Mexican winger continued to experience discomfort, he underwent an additional operation on Friday. “Both the club and he aim for him to be fit again during the course of May.”
After taking 7 points out of 9 against RAAL La Louvière, Zulte Waregem and OH Leuven, this weekend brings the first major appointment in the league for Jérémy Taravel’s RSCA. “It will be an important match, but I wouldn’t call it a test. Just like in every other game, we simply want to perform well. We prepared for the match as best as possible this week. We know that the trip to Club is always difficult, but we want to maintain our positive momentum and are focused solely on our goals,” the Frenchman remained calm.
After a period in which the Mauves struggled to find the net, RSCA - led by top scorer Thorgan Hazard - scored no fewer than nine goals in the last two matches. “You might think that it suddenly comes naturally now,” Taravel explained, “but it’s the result of hard work in training. It also has to do with confidence and creative freedom for the attacking players. We’ve also had more time to train attacking patterns. It’s now more of an organized chaos that we try to refine every day in training.”
Whether that work will pay off against Club Brugge will be seen this Sunday. Kick-off for the clash on March 8 at 13:30 at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
