Vote for our legends for the Pro League Hall of Fame

FRANKY VERCAUTEREN

The Pro League has once again begun the search for two new members for its Hall of Fame. Among the six new nominees are no fewer than five players who wore the colours of the Mauves. Two of the nominees will be inducted during the Pro League Awards on Monday, May 25.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the national team’s brilliant campaign at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, six Red Devils have been nominated: Hugo Broos, Lei Clijsters, Stéphane Demol, Enzo Scifo, Erwin Vandenbergh and Franky Vercauteren.

Hugo Broos has one of the most impressive honours lists in the history of RSC Anderlecht. With three league titles (1972, 1974 & 1981, plus one as a coach in 2004), four Belgian Cups (1972, 1973, 1975 & 1976), two European Cup Winners’ Cups (1976 & 1978), one UEFA Cup (1983) and two European Super Cups (1976 & 1978),  Broos undoubtedly left a major mark on the history of the Mauves.

The same can be said for Franky Vercauteren. The iconic winger won four league titles as a player (1981, 1985, 1986 & 1987) plus two as a coach (2001 & 2004), one Belgian Cup (1976), two European Cup Winners’ Cups (1976 & 1978), one UEFA Cup (1983) and two European Super Cups (1976 & 1978). “Le Petit Prince du Parc” is an absolute RSCA icon and one of the key figures behind the club’s European triumphs.

During his two spells at RSCA, Enzo Scifowho recently celebrated his 60th birthday – won four Belgian league titles (1985, 1986, 1987 & 2000). In January 1985, his performances had already been rewarded with a Golden Boot. The elegant playmaker is considered one of the greatest talents to have worn the shirt of the Mauves, as well as that of the Red Devils.

Sadly passing away in 2023, Stéphane Demol contributed to three league titles (1985, 1986 & 1987) and one Belgian Cup (1988). Stéphane proudly represented our club on 76 occasions and scored seven goals, including a particularly memorable one in the away leg of a historic test match against Club Brugge in 1986.

With RSCA, Erwin Vandenbergh was crowned Belgian champion twice (1985 and 1986). He also won the UEFA Cup in 1983 and the Belgian Super Cup in 1985. In addition, he finished as top scorer twice with Sporting (1983 & 1986). Erwin Vandenbergh was a true marksman in the noblest sense of the word and remains one of the finest strikers ever to wear our colours.
