On Monday, the Mauves presented Marten Winkler. The German right winger joins from Hertha BSC and has signed a four-year contract with RSCA. One day after his official presentation, the 23-year-old left-footer was already on a plane to Kazakhstan. A first interview with the new number ten of the Mauves.
Welcome to Anderlecht, Marten. How does it feel to sign for RSC Anderlecht?
I’m very happy to be here. It feels like an important step in my career. I’m choosing an adventure outside my comfort zone, but I can’t wait to get started.
What made you choose this project?
The conversations with Antoine Sibierski and the coach were very positive. I was also really attracted by the club and the city. RSC Anderlecht is a huge club with a strong reputation in European football. I’ll do everything I can to represent that as well.
How would you describe your playing style?
I’m an attack-minded player who likes to play at a high tempo and show a healthy amount of aggression on the pitch. I think I’m someone who tries to play the game intelligently and contribute to the team in that way, among other things by scoring goals and providing assists.
Which position do you enjoy playing the most?
I’ve played in different positions in the past, but I prefer playing on the right. As a right winger, I can cut inside and make runs towards the middle. I’m at my most dangerous when I can drive forward with the ball on my left foot.
What do you think you can bring to the squad?
I think my biggest strength is my ability to take on opponents from the right flank. As I said, when I can cut inside with the ball on my left foot, I can create the most danger and opportunities for the team. My pace is also an important weapon.
You’ve chosen the number 10. Why did you choose it, and what does the number mean to you?
I’m very proud to wear this number, as it is such an iconic number in football. I can’t wait to wear this shirt in front of the fans at Lotto Park and give everything I have.
What are your ambitions here at RSC Anderlecht, both individually and with the team?
In the short term, my ambition is to win as many games as possible. I want to help the team with my qualities and make a good first impression. In the long term, I obviously hope to win trophies here and make the fans, the club and the city proud. I can’t wait to play my first minutes.
Finally, what would you like to say to the Anderlecht fans?
I’m extremely happy to be here today. I can’t wait to play my first game at Lotto Park and meet the fans in the stadium. I hope I can give them plenty of enjoyment on the pitch in the future.
