Archives 2006-2007

RSC Anderlecht concluded the season 2006-2007 with a 29th Belgian title ! Quite an achievement for a team that had undergone a real transformation during the summer. No less than 11 A-squad players left the team. But Anderlecht had done their homework and managed to get a few excellent players to the Astridpark.
The Brussels team encountered the most opposition from KRC Genk. Genk, under the leadership of ex-Anderlecht-coach Hugo Broos, only had to acknowledge Anderlecht’s superiority two matches before the end of the league. After the winter break Anderlecht lay the foundation for their 29th title. Especially the last couple of matches were a real demonstration of their ability. Anderlecht scored no less than 19 goals in 3 matches and only conceded 2. Just as last season Anderlecht have the best defence (30 goals conceded) and the best attack (75 goals).
Anderlecht also made a good impression in the Belgian Cup. They beat successively Dessel (5-1), Dender (5-2) and Genk (away 0-1, home 6-0). The ‘double’ seemed to be within reach, but the dream was blown to bits in the semifinals as Sporting had to acknowledge Standard’s superiority (at home Anderlecht was beaten 0-1, at Sclessin Sporting lost 2-1). Standard would eventually lose the final against Club Bruges though (1-0).
In the Champions League it was once again no plain sailing. Anderlecht drew an attainable group H however with AC Milan, Lille et AEK. But the draws against Lille and AEK finished the team of Franky Vercauteren. Anderlecht drew four times against Lille and AEK and lost twice against Milan which left Sporting in the end with four points out of six matches and once again the last spot in the group.
The substitutes of Sporting may also look back on an excellent season. Four matchdays before the end they were crowned Champions. Eventually they would finish the season with 78 points, 11 more than first pursuer Club Bruges. The B-squad of Sporting have won 25 matches out of 34, drew 3 times and lost 6 times. In total they scored 80 goals and conceded 33.
The Women of Sporting Anderlecht ended the season 2006-2007 on the second spot, just like the past two years. The Women gathered 62 points and won 19 of their 26 matches, but eventually ended with nine points less than Champions Rapide Wezemaal. The Women of Sporting Anderlecht managed to score 56 times and conceded 14 goals.
