The season 2012-2013 started with a match for the Supercup against Cup winner Sporting Lokeren for national champion RSC Anderlecht. The Purple & White won the game 3-2 - thanks to goals by Dennis Praet, Dieumerci Mbokani and Guillaume Gillet - and have collected their first trophy of the new season.
As announced during last Thursday’s press conference, Anderlecht coach John van den Brom started the match with Kanu and Dennis Praet in the line-up. Marcin Wasilewski and Olivier Deschacht started in central defence because of the absence of Roland Juhasz (injury) and Cheikhou Kouyate (Olympics).
Both teams started the match with hesitation. Anderlecht were more offensive, but this did not lead to any opportunities. On the other side, Lokeren were not able to do much in return either, but a header by Harbaoui did go wide after ten minutes. The visitors seemed to be taking over after that, but they did not amount to more than a shot by Patosi, which went long. Halfway through the first half, the ball went in for the home team. Dennis Praet scored in the far corner: 1-0. Lokeren were close to scoring the equalizer just before half-time, but a shot by Harbaoui went wide.
Early on in the second half, Dieumerci Mbokani scored with a header for Sporting: 2-0. Ivan Leko, however, scored the tying goal only a minute later on. After sixty minutes of play, the score even became 2-2. Ivan Leko, again, had scored after a centre by substitute De Ceulaer. The Purple & White, however, were determined to take their first trophy of the season and, fifteen minutes before the end, Kanu reached Guillaume Gillet, who put in the 3-2 with a hard shot. Anderlecht had control over the game after that and even almost scored again a few times, especially when Dieumerci Mbokani hit the post during injury time. The score remained 3-2, enough to win the first trophy of the season, also the first prize under new coach John van den Brom.
