The NextGen Series, a European youth top competition, has confirmed RSC Anderlecht’s participation for the next three seasons today. According to the organisers, RSCA were elected because "the tradition club from Brussels are known for their good youth training. Top players such as Vincent Kompany and Romelu Lukaku were trained by the Purple & White".
Anderlecht are the seventh new club - in addition to Olympiacos, Chelsea FC, Paris St. Germain, Arsenal FC, Athletic Club and CSKA Moscow to enter the competition, which will have 16 instead of 24 clubs as from next season. RSCA are the first Belgian pro club to enter this league. The tournament is a platform for future top pro players to compete with their peers from top clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona CF.
Justin Andrews, fellow founder of the youth competition made the following statement: "Anderlecht are the most successful club in Belgium. They have brought many internationals and keep on doing the necessary efforts as far as youth training is concerned. We are very pleased that RSCA will take part in the NextGen series and we would like to wish the club a lot of success for the next season 2012 – 2013."
"I am very pleased about this", Jean Kindermans, general manager of RSC Anderlecht’s youth training, said. "We don’t know whether our first team will be able to take part in the group stage of the Champions League yet, but our youth players will be able to take on their peers from the best European clubs. This is a special experience for them and will undoubtedly contribute to their development as football players."
The winners of the first edition of the NextGen Series were Internazionale Milano, who beat AFC Ajax after penalties in the finals. This game was played in London (Leyton Orient) on 25th March 2012.
