RSC Anderlecht took on RAEC Mons in the final match of 2011. Coach Ariël Jacobs was not able to count on the injured Fernando and saw how his team had to content themselves with a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of play. Guillaume Gillet scored for RSCA halfway through the first half.
The first scoring opportunity was one for the visitors when Lukas Marecek took a swing from the edge of the box. The shot, however, went long. Mons reacted after some fifteen minutes, but Tim Matthys just missed Silvio Proto’s goal. Anderlecht were still the most dangerous team, but a kick by Matias Suarez was averted by a home defender. Halfway through the first half, the Purple & White did open the score via Guillaume Gillet. The native from Liège was fouled by Maël Lépicier and converted the penalty: 0-1. After the opening goal, Sporting were dangerous via Matias Suarez and Sacha Kljestan, but their attempts went wide.
The second half started with a good action by Matias Suarez. He passed a few defenders, but was stopped by Mons goalie Werner. The home team reacted with a kick by substitute Bourabia, Silvio Proto was not able to make the save, but Perbet did not manage to do anything with the ball because of offside. As the game progressed, scoring opportunities became more scarce. Anderlecht appeared to have control of the game… until five minutes before the final whistle. Roland Juhasz tried to kick the ball away, but hit Chris Makiese as a result of which the ball passed Silvio Proto: final score 1-1.
The Purple & White still have one point on KAA Gent on the league table.
