EL : Purple & White with huge success and 18/18 to round of 32 !

RSC Anderlecht have gained 18 points out of 6 matches and have finished on top in group L after a convincing 5-3 victory over the Russian Lokomotiv Moscow. Sporting, the first Belgian team in history to play a perfect group stage in Europe, fell behind 0-1 after fifteen minutes of play, but after a nice achievement by the team and goals by Kljestan, Fernando, Wasyl, Suarez and Gillet, the deserved 5-3 win appeared on the board after ninety minutes!

Ariël Jacobs carried through one substitution in comparison to the team which lost 2-1 in Mechelen on Friday. For the decisive EL match with respect to the group winner, Lukas Marecek made his comeback in midfield, Tom De Sutter started on the bench. In the forward line: the pair Milan Jovanovic - Matias Suarez.

Before the game, a minute’s silence was held in the honour of the victims in Liège, the late kit manager José Lago and former player Hippolyte Van Den Bosch. The RSC Anderlecht players also played the UEL match against Lokomotiv Moscow wearing a mourning band.

Anderlecht started the match best and, after only five minutes of play, Guillaume Gillet put goalie Amelchenko to the test. Sporting kept on putting pressure on the visitors during the first stages of the game with attempts by Fernando and Suarez, but their goalie averted the shots. After fifteen minutes, Lokomotiv pushed through as well, but Maicon - alone in front of Silvio Proto - waited too long to take a swing, so the Anderlecht keeper could make the save. Halfway through the first half, the Purple & White fell behind: the defence was not able to get rid of the ball and Vladislav Ignatyev put the 0-1 in. After thirty minutes Glushakov - after a good goal kick by goalie Amelchenko - almost scored the 0-2 but Proto saved. The home team, then, started playing in a more offensive way: a cross by Behrang Safari was headed toward Sacha Kljestan and the American put the 1-1 in. Sporting immediately went looking for more. Matias Suarez first just missed passing the ball on to Guillaume Gillet, but five minutes before half-time, the ball did go in. The Argentinian nicely reached Fernando Canesin Matos, the Brazilian remained calm and scored the 2-1, his first goal in an official match for RSCA.

In the second half, the Purple & White scored again: after sixty minutes a 4-1 score already appeared on the board. First Matias Suarez sent a free kick by Lukas Marecek toward Marcin Wasilewski and the Pole scored the 3-1 with an acrobatic overhead kick. The 4-1 was scored by Matias Suarez a few minutes later on. Fernando passed the ball to Milan Jovanovic, who reached Mati. With still twenty minutes to go, the visitors scored their second goal by way of a penalty (4-2) via Dmitri Sychev, but after that Anderlecht took over again. First an attempt by Lukas Marecek - who played a good match - hit the post, but that only turned out to be a temporary reprieve for the Russians, as Guillaume Gillet took advantage of a mistake by the visiting goalie to put in the 5-2. During the final minutes of the game Andrei Ivanov was booked for the second time and was sent off the field. In the end, Dmitri Sychev put the 5-3 final score on the board.

Thanks to this new victory, the Purple & White are the only club to have won all matches in the Europa League group stage this season. Sporting scored no less than 18 goals in six matches and Silvio Proto was beaten five times. A goal difference of 13. Seven of the Purple & White goals were scored by Matias Suarez. Guillaume Gillet put in five.
