Anderlecht lose 2-1 Achter de Kazerne

The home team took the lead after fifteen minutes of play via a nice goal by David Destorme, Matias Suarez put in the 1-1 after an hour’s worth of play, but twenty minutes before the final whistle, Alessandro Cordaro beat the Purple & White defence and put the 2-1 final score on the board.

Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs carried through two changes to the team that drew 0-0 against Oud-Heverlee Leuven last Sunday: Ziguy Badibanga and Olivier Deschacht started on the bench. Matias Suarez and Behrang Safari - back after a groin injury - were in the starting line-up. Anderlecht played with a mourning band in the honour of Joqé Lago, the Purple & White kit manager who passed away last Tuesday. When they appeared on the field, the players were also wearing shirts saying: ‘Merci pour tout José, on ne t’oubliera jamais’.

The team from Brussels started the match best and a shot by Tom De Sutter hit the post. After a while, KV Mechelen took over and Silvio Proto had to make saves on attempts by Diabang. After fifteen minutes Matias Suarez put the home goalie to the test, but only a few minutes later on, the ball went in on the other side. David Destorme put a far goal kick by Mechelen goalie Renard in: 1-0. The Purple & White seemed shaken up, but took over again. Fernando’s shot, however, went long and Sacha Kljestan’s header ended up in the home goalie’s hands. In the meantime, Matias Suarez had also been able to create an attempt, his shot was saved by Renard and Milan Jovanovic’ rebound hit the side of the net. Mechelen reacted via Gorius, but his shot went long and, on the verge of half-time, Proto stopped Cordaro. 1-0 at half-time.

No substitutions for Sporting at the start of the second half. The home team started the second half best. Silvio Proto, however, was attentive, as was Cheikhou Kouyate. After a foul on Tom De Sutter, Marcin Wasilewski only just missed the goal. The Purple & White got what they were looking for via Matias Suarez, the Argentinian nicely pushed through and beat Renard: 1-1. Anderlecht appeared to have been set free and went looking for a second goal. The home team, however, scored the 2-1 fifteen minutes before the final whistle via Alessandro Cordaro. Anderlecht striker Tom De Sutter almost put in the equalizer, but his attempt was saved by Renard. The score remained the same, the third Purple & White defeat of the season.
