Sacha Kljestan to play final Gold Cup

The CONCACAF Gold Cup is an important football tournament for national teams, in which countries from North America, Central America and the Caribbean compete. The Gold Cup has been organised in the United States every two years since 1991. This year the tournament takes place between 5 and 25 June and, in the final on 25/6, Mexico and the United States will take on each other.

The Gold Cup is currently a championship with 12 countries competing and finalists Mexico and the United States have taken the most titles during the past few years. Mexico have already been able to win the tournament five times, the USA four times. Canada won the remaining title.

Sacha Kljestan is not the only Anderlecht player to compete in the Gold Cup. Victor Bernárdez also played the tournament. The defender reached the semifinals with Honduras, but lost to Mexico during extra time (0-2). Bernárdez was in the starting line-up in all five matches.

Sacha Kljestan and the United States beat Panama in the semifinals. After 90 minutes, the 1-0 score appeared on the board. Kljestan played the entire game. In all, he played every match, and he was even in the starting line-up in the two final games.
