Results Purple & White internationals

Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs had to do without many of the A-squad player during the past week, because of the many international obligations. Today, Wednesday 30th March 2011, and tomorrow, Thursday 31st March 2011, however, players are expected back at the Astridpark. Below you will find an overview of their results.

The Red Devils can look back on two successful Euro 2012 qualifying matches. On Friday 25th March 2011, they beat Austria 0-2. Both Silvio Proto and Romelu Lukaku were injured and did not play. Both Belgian goals were scored by Axel Witsel.
On Tuesday 29th March, the Euro 2012 qualifying match against Azerbeidzjan took place. The Belgians were stronger than their opponents there too: they kept the three points at the Koning Boudewijn Stadium after a 4-1 win. Vertonghen, Simons (penalty), Chadli and Vossen scored for the Devils. Tom De Sutter, who was selected at the last moment, sat on the bench the entire match.
The Red Devils are currently ranked second in group A with ten points out of six matches, five points less than group leaders Germany, who also still have one match more to play.

For Roland Juhasz, too, two qualifying matches for the European Championships were scheduled last week. Both on Friday and on Tuesday, Hungary took on Holland and Juhasz’ team lost twice. They lost the first match 0-4 and the second one 5-3. Roland Juhasz played the full 90 minutes during both matches. Hungary are ranked third in group E with nine points out of six games.

Lucas Biglia captain for Argentinian national team

For Sacha Kljestan and Lucas Biglia, two friendly matches were scheduled. On Saturday 26th March, the United States and Kljestan took on Biglia’s Argentina. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Lucas Biglia came in after 73 minutes of play, Sacha Kljestan stayed on the bench the entire match.

On Tuesday, Kljestan played a practice game against Paraguay. The US lost with the smallest difference to Paraguay (0-1) and Kljestan came in after 77 minutes of play. Lucas Biglia took on Costa Rica with Argentina. The match ended in a scoreless draw (0-0), but the Argentinian Purple & White playmaker did play the full 90 minutes and even became captain after half-time.

Mazuch, Marecek and Lecjaks played for Czech U-21

For the Czech U-21 team, there were two practice games scheduled last week. On Friday 25th March, the young Czechs beat Belorussia 2-0. Jan Lecjaks played the entire match, Lukas Marecek came in at the start of the second half and Ondrej Mazuch played the final five minutes.
On Tuesday 29th March, the friendly match against France took place, but the U-21 lost with the smallest difference: 0-1. Lecjaks as well as Marecek and Mazuch played the entire game.

The Belgian U-21 team also played two practice games last week. Ziguy Badibanga was selected, but the young wing player had to pull out injured before the first match. The young Devils beat Scotland 1-0 on Thursday and lost with the smallest difference to Greece on Monday (0-1).
