SF Adria : Davide Rigon excels in home race and puts RSCA back on track for title ! (+ videos)

The Superleague Formula took place in the Italian Adria this weekend, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September 2010. A genuine home race, then, for Davide Rigon, RSCA’s Italian pilot. Rigon was the best during the qualifications on Saturday and also managed to win race 1 on Sunday. Moreover, he finished eighth in race 2 and won the Super final. Thanks to Rigon, Anderlecht are just 12 points behind on leader Tottenham (Craig Dolby) now.

Race 1 :

Davide Rigon started race 1 from pole position after the great result during Saturday’s qualifications. The Anderlecht pilot immediately took control of that first race, which he held on to until the compulsory pits top. Beijing - who were driving in second position - stopped in the same lap as Rigon and their pits top was an incredibly fast one, as a result of which Beijing pilot John Martin took the lead. Sporting’s Italian, however, had his heart set on a home victory and did everything within his power during the next lap. In the U-turn at the back of the track, Davide Rigon moved to the inside and broke faster than his rival. Much to the pleasure of the crowd, he succeeded and was even able to take a lead. After that, no one was able to give the Italian any problems, as a result of which he took the car, run by Azerti, onto the victory in race 1.

Race 2 :

Because of the customary reverse grid system, Rigon started race 2 all the way in the back. The most important thing for him, then, was to move to the front as much as possible in order to score points for the championship. Thanks to a great race by the Italian and a quick pits top by the Azerti team, Rigon took the Anderlecht car to a nice eighth position.

Super final :

Because of the nice results in races 1 and 2, Rigon also started the well-known Super final, in which the six best clubs take on each other, from pole. And the Anderlecht pilot, again, proved to be very fast. During the first laps, he had a lot of trouble to keep Max Wissel (Basel) at a distance, but he managed to do so, won, and scored a brilliant 2 wins out of 3 during his home race!

"The goal was to win the first race", Davide Rigon said on Sunday night. "I hadn’t expected to also win the Super final, as I didn’t have any new tires left. It was very difficult, Max put a lot of pressure and was very fast. But it’s amazing to win in front of all of the fans here. I also want to thank the team for the great work. It’s been an amazing weekend!"

Because of Rigon’s good results, the race for the title is open again now. "The championship hasn’t been decided yet", he realized. "The four of us all proved that we’re very fast this season. I’ll have to make as few mistakes as possible and then we’ll see..."

A brilliant weekend, then, for RSC Anderlecht, who are still third on the general league table with 506 points, but are only 12 points behind leader Tottenham Hotspur (518 points) now. AC Milan are second with 515 points. The battle for the title will be an exciting one! The next race will already take place within two weeks, on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th September 2010, in Portugal, on the track of Portimão.
