Sporting Anderlecht took on Zulte Waregem at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium as part of the fifth JPL matchday tonight, Saturday 28th August 2010.

Ariël Jacobs was not able to count on Ondrej Mazuch, who was out because of an injury. Victor Bernárdez took his place. Midfielder Lukas Marecek took Cheikhou Kouyate’s place. René Sterckx, an RSCA youth player on loan to Zulte Waregem, appeared at kickoff.

The first scoring opportunity of the match was created during the first minutes of play, Matias Suarez passed three defenders, but Bossut managed to save the shot. RSCA put pressure on the visitors through tries by Marecek, Polak and Lukaku. After fifteen minutes of play, Lukaku had a good scoring opportunity, but his header - following a pass by Gillet - just went wide. A few minutes later on, a long shot by Polak also went wide. After thirty minutes of play, Zulte Waregem reacted when Hyland fed the ball to Habibou, whose shot went long. During the final stages of the first half, Sporting were dangerous through a header by Lukaku, but the 0-0 remained on the board.

From the first minute of the second half on, Sporting put pressure on Zulte Waregem’s defence. Polak was the first to force Bossut to make a save, but his header went straight into the goalie’s hands. Somewhat after the sixtieth minute of play, Gillet got very close to scoring the opening goal, but his attempt was averted by Bossut. The visitors reacted through Habibou, whose header only just went wide. During the final stages of the match, Matias Suarez hit the post twice in two minutes’ time. Gillet took a swing from the edge of the box, but his shot was blocked an ended up with Biglia. The Argentine also took a swing, but Bossut kept his goal empty. In the end, the ball reached Suarez, but his shot hit the crossbar. Somewhat later on, Deschacht reached Badibanga, but he was unable to score. Right after that, Suarez hit the post again. Anderlecht increased the pressure in order to keep the three points at the Astridpark anyway, but were actually in luck when a shot by Sterckx - who had nicely pushed through - only just went wide.

With this 0-0 draw, Sporting lose points on their own pitch for the first time this season.
