Some three months after the opening race in Silverstone, the Superleague Formula teams headed for England for the second time. Brands Hatch was the place to be for the seventh SF racing weekend, on 31st July and 1st August 2010. Davide Rigon had some bad luck during the qualifications, but turned the weekend into a more than successful one by taking two stage wins on Sunday!

The weekend did start rather badly for RSC Anderlecht when Rigon went off the track because of a tire problem during the second free practice session. The usual qualifications started no less than an hour later, so the Azerti team had their hands full to get the car ready. The Purple & White racing car was not ready until five minutes before the end of the qualifications and Rigon only had three laps to set a good time. He only finished seventh in his group and would start the first race in 14th position. “The Azerti team worked hard to get my car ready”, Davide Rigon said after the qualifications. “I was only able to drive three laps, but there were constantly one of more cars in my way, so I didn’t manage to set a good time”, the Italian pilot, who was on this track for the first time, said.
Race 1 :
Because of the unsuccessful qualifications, the Italian pilot had to start the first race from the seventh row (14th position). Rigon’s car was struggling with understeer during the first race, but the Italian did manage to come in 13th. “The car wasn’t quite right during race 1, but I tried to do as much as possible”, Rigon said.

Race 2 :
Because of the reverse grid system, RSCA started the second race sixth. Before the first turn, Rigon was able to move ahead one position and, after fifteen minutes, he also overtook his teammate at Azerti, the Dutchman Robert Doornbos, wo drives for Corinthians. Somewhat later on, RSCA were in third position because of a steering error by Sevilla. The team had kept a set of new tires for the pit stop, so Rigon managed to take second place after nicely overtaking AS Roma. The second race, however, ended earlier than it was supposed to, as Chris Van der Drift crashed and had to be transferred to the hospital to receive medical care. Meanwhile, it has been announced that Van der Drift has broken his ankle and a finger. His ribs and one shoulder may also have been injured.

Super Final :
The Super Final, in which the 6 fastest clubs drive for the prizes, has a stationary start like in Formula One, which happens to be Davide Rigon’s specialty. From fourth position, he took an amazing start, just like during the past few SF weekends, and immediately turned up behind leader John Martin. That car, that won the first race, turned out to be too strong for RSC Anderlecht, that did take second place again.

“After the problems in the first race, the team adapted the car for race 2, so, from that point on, everything went smoothly. I want to thank them for that again, because we have taken two stage wins, despite Saturday’s problems”, the Italian said. “The next race will take place in my homeland Italy, on the Adria track, on 4th and 5th September. I’m looking forward to it, I know the track well and I secretly hope that we will be able to improve our third position on the league table.”
