The Belgian heat of the Superleague Formula took place on the Zolder Circuit for the third year in a row last weekend, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th July 2010. A home race, then, for both RSC Anderlecht and the Azerti team, who run the car. And the home race became a genuine success for the Purple & White when Italian pilot Davide Rigon took second place in race 1 and won the Super Final! Thanks to this achievement, Anderlecht rise to third position on the general Superleague Formula league table.
In the qualifying races, Rigon was only beaten in the final by Olympiacos, who won the two previous racing weekends. But a loss in the final still means a position on the first row. Rigon managed to hold on to his second place at the start of that first race. An attempt to make a difference during the obligatory pit stop turned into a tense battle when leader Olympiacos and Rigon entered together, but the pit crews were well matched, as a result of which the Italian finished second.
Results race 1 :

The starting order of the second race was, as always, set by turning around the results of the previous race. Because of that, RSC Anderlecht only started 16th. From the start of the race on, there were a few collisions, which Rigon was able to avoid. League leader Craig Dolby, however, was one of the victims. He was run into, could not carry on and had to hand his leading position over to AC Milan. In the end, Anderlecht finished 9th in race 2 and, like that, qualified for the Super Final, with the six fastest clubs.
Results race 2 :

Because of a perfect start in that Super Final, Rigon already passed AC Milan after 20 metres and also outwitted Olympiacos. From then on, RSC Anderlecht controlled the race and, like that, took their very first home win in the Superleague Formula.
Results race 3 :

"During the first race I was faster than Olympiacos, but I didn’t get past because it’s difficult to overtake here", Davide Rigon said. "With the championship and the important points of the second place in mind, I decided not to take any chances. In the end, I was able to have my revenge in the Super Final: my start was amazing and I took the lead from Olympiacos in the first turn. This was a brilliant weekend for myself, RSC Anderlecht and Azerti, and I want to thank them all!"
Because of these nice results, RSC Anderlecht now take third place on the league table from FC Basel, behind new leader AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur. Funny detail: Yelmer Buurman - who raced for RSCA in 2009 - is now ranked first, followed by Craig Dolby, the Briton who drove for RSC Anderlecht in 2008 and got close to a victory in Zolder back then.
Overall standings :

The next racing weekend will take place on the Circuit of Brands Hatch in England on 31st July and 1st August 2010.
