SF : RSCA on song in Germany : 2nd place in race 1 and in Super Final ! (VIDEOS)

Last weekend, the Superleague Formula clubs travelled from the Spanish Jarama to the Nürburgring in Germany, which is familiar territory for most teams and pilots, as a racing weekend was already held there during the debut year 2008.

The draw decided that RSC Anderlecht had to race in qualifying group B on Saturday and pilot Davide Rigon drove an excellent second time. His quarterfinal against Liverpool was deformed because of breaking problems for the English club, who, therefore, were not able to compete with RSC Anderlecht. In the semifinals, Rigon encountered his teammate with Azerti, former F1 pilot Robert Doornbos, racing for Corinthians. During the first part of the track, Doornbos was a tenth of a second faster, and, in the second sector, Rigon took an advantage of a hundredth of a second, but after the finish the Brazilian club turned out to be a tenth faster.

Davide Rigon started well from 3rd position in race 1 and only had to allow Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan) in front of him in the first turn. During the pit stops, the Azerti team tried to pass the former Anderlecht pilot by way of a faster pit stop, but did not get any further than second place.

"It was a very calm first race for me", Davide Rigon said after race 1. "I pushed through during the first thirty minutes, but congratulations to Yelmer (Buurman): he was just too quick. At the end, I decided to spare the tires and the car for the next race. I will start race two all the way in the back, but it is now especially important to take points. The car is not bad, so we will see."

Race 1 :

1. AC Milan (Yelmer Buurman) 46:36.469
2. RSC Anderlecht (Davide Rigon) at 7,724
3. Olympiacos (Chris van der Drift) at 11,562
4. Flamengo (Franck Perera) at 13,958
5. AS Roma (Julien Jousse) at 33,766

7. Corinthians (Robert Doornbos) at 34,961
8. Basel (Max Wissel) at 35,410
9. Galatasaray (Tristan Gommendy) at 36,045
10. Tottenham Hotspur (Craig Dolby) at 47,015

Because of the reverse grid system in race 2, RSC Anderlecht had to start last but one. A few drop-outs and another strong race by Rigon, however, resulted in 12th place at the finish.

Race 2 :

1. FC Porto (Alvaro Parente) 45:03,384
2. Girondins de Bordeaux (Franck Montagny) at 0,826

9. Flamengo (Franck Perera) at 43,887
10. Corinthians (Robert Doornbos) at 44,486
12. RSC Anderlecht (Davide Rigon) at 51,259

In the Super Final, in which the six clubs with the most points from both races take part, RSC Anderlecht, starting from third, managed to finish second, behind Olympiacos, winning their second Super Final in a row. Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan) finished third.

"My start in the Super Final was amazing", Davide Rigon said after race 3. "I was quite close to Olympiacos in the first turn. I pushed until the limit and I still saw him gain ground, so I decided to safeguard that second place, as Yelmer was quite far behind me", Rigon said. On the general league table, leader Craig Dolby (Tottenham) has 76 points on him. "Of course I am also starting to think about the championship and looking forward to Zolder, where I was able to win a race in 2008. Hopefully I will have a good race there again for all of the Anderlecht fans."
