SF Jarama : RSCA score important points in Madrid (UPDATE VIDEOS)

On the sunny track of Jarama, nearby Madrid, the fourth racing weekend of the Superleague Formula took place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th June 2010. Anderlecht pilot Davide Rigon was able to get hold of a nice tenth and sixth place after difficult qualifications on Saturday.

Saturday’s free training sessions were a disaster for RSC Anderlecht, as a motor problem emerged early on during the first session. The V12 engine had to be replaced, as a result of which pilot Davide Rigon was not able to take part in the next sessions. He only qualified 15th on Saturday afternoon, because he had missed the largest part of the morning training sessions.

The Jarama track is very narrow, so it is hard to overtake, which Davide Rigon experienced when he got blocked behind Sevilla during the first race. After the pit stops, however, Rigon was able to move up to 10th place.

RACE 1 :

1. Beijing Guoan FC (John Martin) – 45:47.162
2. AC Milan (Yelmer Buurman) – at 0,464
3. Olympiacos (Chris van der Drift) – at 13,019
4. FC Basel (Max Wissel) – at 14,546
5. Tottenham Hotspur (Craig Dolby) – at 29,927

9. Corinthians (Robert Doornbos) – at 45,399
10. RSC Anderlecht (Davide Rigon) – at 54,039

At the start of the second race, Rigon immediately went up a place, from 9th to 8th. After a few laps, however, the pilot - following a few other cars - made a mistake on a slippery part in the first turn. Still, the Italian pilot managed to control the car after a quick pit stop by the Azerti team and nicely took sixth place. He even tried to attack his Azerti teammate Robert Doornbos in the Corinthians car, but, as it was very risky to overtake, he kept his position until the finish.

"It was hard to rightly adjust the car this weekend, as we missed the largest part of the free training sessions, because of something which was not out fault", Davide Rigon said. "In the first race, the understeer was bothering me during slow turns. Sevilla were in front of me for quite some time and I was faster, but it is impossible to overtake here in Jarama."

RSC Anderlecht are currently ranked fourth in the championship and will confidently head for the German Nürburgring, not far from the Belgian boarder, where the next Superleague Formula will take place next weekend.
