Jan Lecjaks : I don’t feel any pressure, I want to prove that I can handle the level this season

RSC Anderlecht turn out to have a bent for the players of the Czech U21 team. After Ondrej Mazuch and Lukas Marecek last season, Jan Lecjaks is the third U21 international to arrive at the Astridpark. Lecjaks signed a one-year contract at Purple-White, with an option for three extra seasons. The 19-year-old left back will wear the number 7 shirt.

"When Jelle Van Damme’s transfer to the English Wolverhampton became official, we immediately reacted by way of Lecjaks", Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck said during the Czech’s introduction. "We intensively scouted him and know that he has what it takes to - probably after a short adjustment period - become a first-string player", he said. "In the past, we have found that the Czech players have the right mentality to succeed, that they are triers."

The defender comes from the Czech Viktoria Plzen, Purple-White will be his first foreign adventure. "There were other clubs interested, but Anderlecht were quick to put forward a tangible offer. This club was my first choice, so I didn’t have to think about it for long", Lecjaks said. The 19-year-old Czech has, in the meantime, already trained at his new club. "I can tell that the level is higher here, and the club is also very professional. Everything is going very well. I immediately felt welcome here."

Jan Lecjaks has not arrived in a completely unknown atmosphere, as Ondrej Mazuch and Lukas Marecek are familiar faces to him. "Of course I talked to them about this transfer. Mazuch has become a first-string player at Purple-White, he is living proof of the fact that youthful players are privileged here. I also considered that when I decided to come here", the left back said. "I know that I will have to compete with captain Olivier Deschacht. He has played here for many years and is also an international. I know that it will be difficult, but I will do my best to show what I can do during practice matches and, like that, take my position in the team. I don’t feel any pressure, but I do want to prove that I can take the level, so that I can keep on playing here for the seasons to come", Lecjaks said.
