Lucas Biglia returned to the Astridpark somewhat later than his teammates, because he went down with the flue in Argentina. In the meantime, the midfielder has recovered completely and he is present at the training session in Austria. The Argentinian talked exclusively to RSCA.be about his bond with Anderlecht, his recent fatherhood and his future.
RSCA’s training session in Austria is still going on. "Everything is going well, we are working hard in every field: conditionally, tactically,... I am still not 100% physically. I am a bit tired, but it is going the right way. The preparation is meant for players to improve themselves. And, in the end, we only have to be ready within two weeks." Indeed, within a fortnight, the important CL preliminaries will take place. "We have to win and that’s it", said the sympathetic Argentinian. "Our group is a good one and it will become even better. We have to continue working as we are doing right now and we have enough quality to survive those qualification rounds. Our team is full of technique and many young players have joined us. I think that is a very good thing", he said. "But the transfer period will last until the end of August, so reinforcements will probably follow. We do have to make sure that we keep our objectives in front of us and that we really reinforce the team with qualitative transfers."

Missing out on the title last season left Biglia with an aftertaste of bitterness. "Obviously that hurt, for several reasons. First of all, we were first on the league table after 34 match days and should have been champions. I had never heard of decisive matches for the title. Moreover, I do not understand why it is necessary to decide a championship that way. Secondly, Standard were awarded a penalty only thought to be one by the referee and, thirdly, we took a lead over Standard a few times during the season and made it too easy for them to catch up with us." No decisive matches this season, but a completely new league format instead. "Personally, I have never seen anything like this and I wonder whether the level of the matches will profit from it. But that is my opinion, I do not know what my teammates or the club think about this."

At the end of May, during the decisive phase of the championship, Lucas became a father for the first time. A major event in the life of the young Argentinian. "The birth of my daughter Allegra has changed many things privately, but my view of football has not really changed. This was already the case last summer, after the passing away of my father”, said Biglia. "I miss her. I have not had the chance to see her a lot ever since she was born. At first, I was hospitalized and she was not allowed to visit me, and almost immediately after my return to Belgium, we left for Austria", said Biglia, who also went to have dinner with Nicolas Frutos and former teammate Nicolas Pareja during his holiday in Argentina.

Lucas Biglia is an important player in RSCA’s team, but he has not always received the recognition he deserves from the media during the past few years. "Personally, I do not really care about what the press write. The club and the team are the most important things", according to the Argentinian. "For that matter, people who know something about football will recognize the players’ qualities, that is enough for me."
Meanwhile, Biglia has already played with RSCA for three seasons. "I am very satisfied with those three years. I feel all right here and I am happy to be part of the team. I had never thought that I would get the opportunity to play in Europe at such a young age and take part in the UEFA Cup and the Champions League", he said.
The question is whether the Argentinian will still play at the Astridpark next season. That is, the past few weeks, the newspapers have been writing that the midfielder necessarily wants to leave this summer. Lucas? "I am very happy to be asked this question, as I would like to clarify some things. I have always been treated very well at Anderlecht and I would like to thank everyone again for this - teammates, management, staff,... It is my dream, however, to play the World Cup with Argentina in 2010 and, unfortunately, the national coach does not come all the way to Belgium to scout players. If I want to take part, I should move to a different competition... I do not want to leave necessarily, I just want to achieve progress and obtain my major goal: take part in the World Cup", said Biglia. "If it were just a private matter, I would stay in Belgium for the rest of my life, as I feel fine here. I love Belgium and Anderlecht. What I would miss if I were to leave? Everything and everyone."
